CONCLUDING OBSERVATIONS ON DIMENSIONS OF A COMPLEX PROBLEM
BY PARKER ROSSMAN

The following is the last section of the first chapter of Dr. Parker Rossman’s Sexual Experience Between Men and Boys (originally published in 1976), entitled "Dimensions of a Complex Problem", introduced here. His intention in this chapter was to give an unavoidably simplified but general idea of the different types of pederast and their prevalence. Actually, however, his evidence was mostly limited to what was then recent in countries with a Christian tradition.

Concluding Observations

- In addition to those described above, there are no doubt many other types of pederasts. As a matter of fact, most of the pederasts who were interviewed do not quite fit into any one of the above categories. At different times in their lives, each one may represent a different combination of these types. Each person’s experience is unique and is a flowing process from birth to death, with behavior varying from stage to stage: at puberty, during adolescence, after marriage, and in later life. The breakdown into types is only useful, therefore, to begin the process of description and definition.

- It is incorrect to view all pederasts as emotionally disturbed persons who seduce or molest youngsters. While there are rapists, murderers, and pimps among heterosexuals, homosexuals, and pederasts, the percentage of pederasts involved in prostitution, sadism, murder, kidnapping, or drugs is probably no larger than the percentage of such criminals in the rest of the population.

- It is an error to confuse pederasty and gay-homosexuality. The question remains, however - are there “gay” pederasts? Homosexual organizations assert that adult gays are rarely involved with young boys and available evidence seems to support their view that responsible homosexuals can be trusted to do social work, to be foster parents, and to teach young boys in school - at least as much as heterosexuals can be trusted to do the same with young girls. At the same time, gay adolescents do sometimes have sexual affairs with older men. Who are these men? Probably some of them are gay homosexuals who developed pederastic tastes as a result of adolescent conditioning.[1] Others may be either pederasts or gay-homosexuals who have been charmed and touched by the affection of a gay-homosexual youngster who is already aware that he is sexually attracted only to men. Most pederasts interviewed, however, are not attracted to gay boys because they find them too often to be jealous, passionate and romantic, whereas most pederasts are interested only in the sex-for-fun horseplay of the normal masculine boy.

- There is a considerable difference in erotic experience from one pederast to another. The substitute pederast wants to pretend that a boy is a woman, whereas the sensate pederast seeks erotic sensations different from those found with a woman. The paiderastia-type enjoys the sexual pleasure of the boy, sublimating his own to that end, whereas the sports-comrade-type seeks to sublimate his desire for coitus by rough play that may spill over into mutual masturbation. In any of these cases, the erotic pleasure may be enhanced and altered by fantasy - in fact, meaningful erotic experience may largely be limited to fantasy.

[1] This is the view taken by Karl Andersson in an amusing and incisive article in his magazine Destroyer: Journal of Apollonian Beauty and Dionysian Homosexuality, IX (Berlin, June 2009) p.8, where he says this of what he calls “The Schoolgirl”, one of his four types of boy-lover.
