Synopsis
When Davy Morgan, the least untalented of a third rate family music hall comedy act, but possessed of a decent tenor voice, gets an audition at the Covent Garden Opera, he struggles with whether he should pursue his solo ambition or be loyal to his family.
This movie, which is sometimes mistakenly characterised as an 'Ealing comedy', when in fact it was a melodrama, was conceived as a movie vehicle for the Welsh singer and entertainer Harry Secombe, who had already achieved popularity on the radio programme The Goon Show. However, with the tedious slapstick routine of the Morgans' comedy act, and the film's poor script, it proved both a critical and box office flop. Peter Frampton, the little boy who plays Davy's nephew, Tim, was the son of the make-up artist on the film, Harry Frampton.
