Synopsis
A man revisits the scenes of his boyhood, where, in a rural Welsh quarrying village in the early part of the twentieth century, he grew up in a deeply religious community, amidst violence, sexual repression, death, and insanity. In the final minutes of the film, a scene that seems to be going towards a version of the famous last scene in Cider With Rosie takes a swerve into distinctly darker territory.

Source material
Based on the 1961 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Caradog Prichard (1904-1980). The novel is regarded as one of the finest novels in the Welsh language, and there has been more than one translation of it into English, including a translation for Penguin Twentieth Century Classics in 1999.
