Synopsis and Commentary
Clément, the only son of a single mother who has been divorced for almost as long as he is old, is an intelligent and very curious little boy of nine. When he is not at school, he never leaves his camera and tirelessly roams the old streets of his home town of Loches, observing the adults and photographing them, in an attempt to understand their behaviour, and discover the mysteries of adulthood and the secrets of happiness. But, as Christmas approaches, Clément's curiosity involves him in a sordid affair involving a series of murders of local women.
This film has never had a release in the Anglosphere, which is perhaps not surprising given the Anglo taboos that the film insouciantly breaks. Besides using his ubiquitous camera for what would now be called 'upskirting', Clément's curiosity about sex leads him to look through porn magazines, as well as receiving tuition from his girlfriend Astrid, who seems slightly older than he is as well as more sexually knowing. There is a scene in which Astrid joins Clément in the latter's bed and it is implied that she masturbates him under the covers.
Milan Argaud is superb as Clément in this unique film. This was his acting debut.
